The Women + Girls Research Alliance is partnering with Ally Financial to present a research summit in March 2021, focused on education, employment, health, the impact of COVID-19, and dialogue centered around the economic mobility of women and girls in our community.
The UNC Charlotte Women + Girls Research Alliance welcomes our new Executive Director, Dr. Michelle Meggs. Dr. Meggs, whose diverse background includes work in academia, the nonprofit sector and ministry, envisions the W+GRA becoming the place for scholars across the state and nation to come together to advance gender equity and social mobility. Dr.
Dr. Heather Brown, W+GRA Executive Director, will present a paper called “There’s always stomach on the table and then I gotta write!”: Physical Space, Body Consciousness, and Learning in Fat College Women Learners at the upcoming National Women's Studies Association annual conference on precarity. Brown's paper, part of a larger project exploring the lived experiences of fat women learners at the undergraduate level, analyzes what fat college women students say about how their interactions with physical classroom space affect their experiences as learners.
2015 Summer Learning Lab participants Brooke Palmer and Alexis Brightman, both graduate students at UNC Charlotte, and W+GRA Executive Director Heather Brown, Ed.D., presented a poster on the W+GRA's new community-sourced research model at the 2015 Southeastern ECO event. The conference is sponsored by the Society for Community and Action. Their poster, and W+GRA-sponsored research, can be viewed on the W+GRA website.
